The driveway you see on this page is a real Salt Lake City job. After a truck fire near the home, the concrete was left streaked with soot, oil, and burnt residue that a garden hose was never going to touch.
We pre-treated the oil and burn staining, then ran a commercial flat-surface cleaner across the whole slab for an even, wand-mark-free finish. It took most of a night, but the driveway came back bright and clean, and the front of the house looked cared for again.

How we clean a driveway properly
The difference between a driveway that looks clean and one that looks new is almost entirely about even coverage and pre-treatment, not about raw pressure.
Clear and inspect the slab
We clear the surface and look for what is actually on it. Oil, rust, and organic staining each need a different pre-treatment, and identifying them first is what decides whether the stain comes out or just gets wet.
Pre-treat the staining
Oil and grease get a degreaser and dwell time. Organic growth gets a solution. Rust gets a rust-specific treatment. Skipping straight to the wash is the single most common reason a driveway comes out patchy.
Surface clean, not wand pass
A flat surface cleaner covers the slab in an even, overlapping pattern. A hand wand cannot, which is where the zebra striping people see on cheap jobs comes from: alternating clean and dirty bands across the concrete.
Detail the edges and rinse the run-off
Edges, expansion joints, and the apron get detailed by hand where the surface cleaner cannot reach, and the run-off is rinsed off walks and beds so the job does not leave a dirty tide line behind it.
Driveway stains and what actually removes them
Motor oil and transmission fluid
Oil soaks into concrete rather than sitting on it. A degreaser with real dwell time pulls it back to the surface; anything less just cleans the concrete around it and makes the stain more obvious.
Rust from sprinklers and fertilizer
Orange staining from irrigation water or fertilizer granules. It needs a rust-specific treatment; pressure will not touch it and neither will a general cleaner.
Tire marks and plasticizer bleed
Dark scuffing where tires sit. Some of it is rubber, some is plasticizer migrating out of the tire into the concrete, and the second kind is stubborn.
Efflorescence
The chalky white bloom that comes up through concrete as moisture carries mineral salts to the surface. It is a moisture symptom, and it returns if the underlying cause is not addressed.
Organic growth in expansion joints
Moss and algae in the joints and along shaded edges. It comes back fastest, and it is the first thing to reappear if the treatment step was skipped.
Road salt and de-icer residue
Winter de-icer leaves salt that keeps working on the surface. Clearing it in spring matters more for the concrete's life than for how it looks.
Leaf and tannin staining
Dark shadows where wet leaves sat over the winter. Fresh staining lifts easily; a full season of it takes a treatment.
